In the six chapters that we read, I noticed a large transformation of Sal as a character. He became much more mature in his speaking and his actions. This is before he reunites with Dean, however. When with him, he becomes much more spontaneous and wild. Like his last minute idea to go to Italy and such. The only difference is that when he is with Dean he is happy even though he is much crazier. Maybe thats who he truly is and society has held him back from being that because when he is alone and being what he is supposed to be "a white man" he is sad.
